No, I’m not in prison
To those of you who’d thought I’d stepped into a time space sink hole in the middle of the central asian deserts and disappeared off the face of the earth – rest assured, I’ve been alive and well – living in a huge palace made of gilded, smelly soaps, two dozen concubines, a gigantic 120″ TV screen and a migdet butler tenderizing my sore shoulders. And did i mention the luxury camel caravans to the local AM/PM at all hours?
Okay, Okay admittedly, I’m no master here, but just another member of the enslaved help, shelling a mountain of cashews alone in a dark cell …and ….thinking of you all during this holiday season. Please send help.
Seriously, I’ve been living a life since mid-August here in Urumqi, Xinjiang PRC, Studying language at one of the local colleges, working, and day by day making attempts to smooth out my expatriot’s rough edges. You know, it takes a while.
If you’re curious for some actual detail, check back here shortly, as I’m just now getting this online thing together. I’ve got a 2 month holiday coming up and that means lots of time to deal with many of things that I’ve been promising, including some semblance of a blog like page chock full of goodies, – ie: this one and a more project centric site which will feature scheme oriented output. In the meantime, I’d like to offer a little aural window into my world here. A compilation of happenin local pop music that I’ve put together for you all – just in time, for you to download, burn to CD, print the included label files and stuff deep in someone’s Christmas stocking as the ONLY known Uyghur pop collection available this side of the Pamirs. If you like this one, and you will – then I hope to offer more in what will hopefully be a little series of web comp releases. Okay then thanks for checking in for now. more to follow!
